Orchids

Another of my many obsessions are Orchids.

But Terry was not having any of it.

So I had to be content with looking in the garden centres and reading about them.

But one day on our way home from one of my chemo visits he relented and I

was allowed to buy some. Well, two to be exact.

Then on my next chemo visit another two were purchased and so it went on.

They give you the most wonderful show and stay in flower for months and months.

Most of the ones I have are Phalaenopsis.

I have found them to be fascinating, as they not only flower for eight to twelve weeks but when that

spike has died you just cut the stem back to a nodule and with luck a new flowering spike will start to grow.

I have done this several times and it works.

I have some that smell as well but there are not many.

Now for some pictures we have taken.

The picture at the head of the page was taken when we went to visit an orchid nursery on my birthday.

Unfortunately even though it was only four weeks ago the other pictures seem to have gone walk about.

I have been through all the floppy discs but I cannot find them.

All the above orchids are Phalaenopsis. I am sorry about the poor photography.

I must get myself a better set up for taking their pictures. But it will do for now while I work on it.

This one is an Odontoglossum type called

Burrageara "Nelly Isler" and it has a scent.!!
